Jesus speaks these words at the Last Supper, just after washing his disciples' feet. The context is crucial: Jesus knows what he's about to face—crucifixion and separation from his Father. Yet even in this darkness, he turns to comfort his disciples rather than seeking comfort himself.
"Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me."
This is remarkable. He's thinking of their comfort, not his own suffering.
Jesus makes an astounding promise:
"In my Father's house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself. And where I am, there you may be also."
Right now, Jesus is preparing a room for you. Your soul has longed to be in that room since the moment you were born. Even if you don't know Jesus, your soul yearns to go home. We all know that feeling when we've been away on holiday—eventually, you just want to go home. There's no place like home.
Here's what I want you to hear: Jesus is your home. Bishop Marí Marí Emmanuel says it powerfully—Jesus is his home, and he doesn't care where he goes. If Jesus is there, it isn't hell. Jesus our heaven. We get so focused on what heaven will look like, the streets of gold, the beauty of it all. But here's the truth: there. That's enough. As long as I'm with Jesus, that's the home my soul longs for.

When Thomas asks, "Lord, we do not know where you are going, and how can we know the way?" Jesus responds with one of the most powerful declarations in Scripture:
"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Notice what Jesus says: He doesn't say, "I'll show you the way." He says, "I am the way." This is what Philip missed. Philip was confused—how can you know the way if you don't know where you're going? But church, we don't need to know what heaven looks like. We don't need to understand every detail. We just need to know Him. He's the way.
Christianity is not about following a religion. It's about following a person—Jesus Christ.
The term "Christian" was originally a derogatory insult meaning "little Christs." But the original followers were called something else: people of the way. We are people of the way—followers of Jesus.
In Acts 9, Saul is hunting down those "of the way," the followers of Jesus. Later, in Acts 18, Apollos is described as having been "instructed in the way of the Lord." He was eloquent, mighty in the scriptures, fervent in spirit. He had all the gifts and knowledge. Yet he still had to learn the way of God more accurately. This shows us that all our works, all our gifts, all our efforts—if we're not looking to Jesus, if we're not following the way, we're missing the point.
Isaiah 30:21 says:
"Your ears shall hear a word behind you saying, 'This is the way. Walk in it whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.'"
Are you listening for that voice? Some people have heard God audibly. Many of us hear Him in our spirit. But we must be listening. Sometimes I have to remind myself—I'm so caught up in what I'm doing, I'm not even listening to God. Sometimes I'm even praying without truly listening. We have to listen for God in all things, all the time.
Matthew 7:13-14 is sobering:
"Enter by the narrow gate. Wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction. And there are many who go in by it, because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life. And there are few who find it."
It's a tough walk. It's a difficult path. Sometimes when things go smoothly, I have to question myself—because Jesus told us we'd be persecuted. We'll have tough times. We're a target for Satan. 100%.
But here's something beautiful: Jesus is the shepherd, and the shepherd is also the gate. The shepherd would stand at the fold and count the sheep as they entered. Only his sheep could pass through. He's the gate. He's the way. Not a way—the way.
There's only one way to God. The world will tell you differently. Even some Christian voices will tell you there are many paths to God. There aren't. Jesus said there's one way, and that's it. If there were another way, Jesus wouldn't have had to die on the cross. But he did die. He had to die because he was the only way.
When you're lost, who's the way? Jesus. When you're confused, who's the way? Jesus. When you're in despair, when you need healing, who do you look to? Jesus. Whatever you're going through, he's the way out.
He's a way-maker. When Moses came to the sea with an army pursuing, God split the sea like walls. Can you imagine? What seems impossible to us—he can split the sea. Whatever you're facing, he's the way through it.
When Jesus stood before Pilate, he said:
"For this cause I was born and for this cause I have come into the world that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice."
Pilate asked the eternal question: "What is truth?" Theologians and historians have asked this since the dawn of time. The answer is simple: Jesus is the truth. Not a truth—the truth.
Pilate was standing face to face with truth incarnate and didn't recognize him.
We live in a world where truth has become subjective. "That's my truth, that's your truth." No. There's a standard to truth, and that standard is Jesus. You can't say a black wall is white just because it's your truth. There's an objective reality. Truth has a standard, and that standard is the character and person of Jesus Christ.
Everything Jesus said was true. Everything he did was true. And everything he promised is true. We need to hold onto that. There's no lying in him.
When doubt surrounds you—and it surrounds all of us—who do we look to? Jesus, the truth. The enemy whispers subtle lies. That's where sin began, in the garden, with a twisting of the truth.
Deception is increasing in this world. Do you know why? Because Satan knows his time is coming to an end. He's been served notice. He's on his last stand, and it's getting worse. So where do we look? We look to the truth—Jesus and his word.
When life's questions overwhelm you, when you don't know what's true anymore—I watch the news and I don't know where the truth is. I look at different sides of issues and I'm confused about what's actually true. But I know the one who is truth. I follow him.
Psalms 119:105 says:
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
This is our guide. If something doesn't line up with scripture, disregard it. Don't listen. Always check against what the Bible says. The Bible tells us, "Let God be true and every man a liar."
Proverbs 14 says:
"There's a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death."
I have desires. There are things I want to do that seem right to me, seem godly. But if it's not God's will, that's not my direction.
Proverbs 3:5-6 is essential:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths."
It's so hard to do. I'm guilty of it. I don't bring God into everything until I'm overwhelmed and desperately cry out, "I need you, Lord." But here's the question: Is God your first resort or your last resort? He needs to be our first resort. Yet often, sadly, he's the last resort for many people.
John 8:32 is a verse that spoke into my life even before I was a Christian. Ten years before I became a Christian, God gave me a picture of this scripture on an old road sign:
"You shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
But notice there are two parts to this promise. It's not just that Jesus sets you free. It's your knowledge of the truth that sets you free. We're freed by the Lord to the glory of God through our growing knowledge of the truth.
Out of the three things Jesus claimed—the way, the truth, and the life—"I am the life" is the most audacious claim. That's a massive claim, church.
John 17:1-3 explains what eternal life is:
"Father, the hour has come. Glorify your son that your son may also glorify you. As you have given him authority over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."
Some people use one verse from John to argue against Jesus' deity: "Jesus says the Father is the only true God." But if you read the whole book of John—not just one verse in isolation—it's crystal clear that Jesus is claiming to be Lord. He says, "If you've seen me, you've seen the Father. I'm Lord."
John 11:25-26 is powerful:
"I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?"
Because he lives, church. Because he rose on the third day, we can die to ourselves and our old life and be born again. Because he lives, anyone who believes and trusts in him will have eternal life.
John 10:10 contrasts two kinds of life:
"The thief does not come except to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come that you may have life and that they may have it more abundantly."
Many people exist, but not many truly live. You've probably felt this—going through the motions, routine after routine, grinding through life. I remember when my life was so routine: drive to work, eat the same thing, just grinding through the gears. But Jesus offers more than just physical life. He offers abundant life—spiritual life.
Before we know him, we're spiritually dead. The wages of sin is death. But he offers us spiritual resurrection and abundant life. What does that look like? It looks like being truly alive. It looks like eternal life.
I've lived without him. I've lived for him. I wouldn't go back. I wouldn't want to live without him now. It's like getting a driver's license—once you have it, you can't imagine living without it. How did I manage before?
Here's something important: sin is death. The Bible doesn't have gradations of sin—some worse than others. When we judge people by their appearance or behavior, we're making a mistake. Some people look put-together on the outside but are wrapped in sin. Others look rough or disheveled but have the best relationship with God.
We shouldn't judge. There's no hierarchy of sin. You don't look at a dead body and say, "Well, he's 130% dead." You're either dead or alive. Simple as that. You're either in sin or you're not. Sin is sin. Sin is death.
The Old Testament gives us seven chapters detailing the construction of the Tabernacle—God's dwelling place on earth. God gave specific instructions about every detail: the colors, the materials, the craftsmanship. He even gave the workers the skills to build it. It shows how important this was.
The Tabernacle had three main areas:
Many Christians are content to stay in the outer courts. They say, "I'm saved. That's enough. I don't need to go deeper. I don't need to come to church." But is just being saved in the outer court enough? Don't you want to go deeper into God? Don't you want to experience more of his presence?
Here's something beautiful: the entrance to the Tabernacle was literally called "the way." The gateway with the curtain—that was the way in.
The veil that separated the outer court from the holy place? That was called "the truth."
The final veil that separated the holy place from the holy of holies? That was called "the life."
Do you see it? The way, the truth, and the life. Jesus embedded these truths into the very structure of his dwelling place.
The Outer Court represents faith. You make your declaration: "I believe Jesus is Lord and Savior." You're in. You're saved.
The Holy Place represents hope. In the holy place was the table of showbread, the altar of incense, the golden menorah. This is where the church gathers in communion. We remember that he shed his blood so we could live and be forgiven. We do this in remembrance of him.
The Holy of Holies represents love. This is where you're in the presence of God. This is love.
Faith, hope, and love in the tabernacle. The structure itself teaches us that as we grow closer to God, we move from faith through hope into love—the presence of God himself.
When John had his vision on Patmos in Revelation 1, he was in the heavenly tabernacle. He saw:
"Seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the seven lampstands one like the Son of man, clothed with his garment down to his feet...His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes like a flame of fire."
Jesus was tending to his churches. He was in the midst of the seven golden lampstands—the seven churches—caring for them, watching over them. It's a beautiful picture of Jesus tending to his church.
There was a veil—a curtain—between the holy place and the holy of holies. Only the high priest could enter, and they'd even tie a rope to his foot because if something happened to him inside, no one could rescue him. They'd have to drag him out by the rope. That's how holy that place was.
But when Jesus died on the cross, that veil was torn. The barrier was removed. We now have access.
Hebrews 10:19-22 tells us:
"Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which he consecrated through the veil, that is, through his flesh, and having a high priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water."
We have boldness to enter the holy of holies—the very presence of God—through the blood of Jesus. We can draw near with true hearts in full assurance of faith.
Don't stay in the outer courts. Yes, faith is important. Yes, being saved matters. But don't stop there. Come into the holy place. Experience hope, communion, the presence of God with his church. And pursue that most holy place—intimacy with God, his love surrounding you.
We come together because we want to feel God's presence. We want to experience that peace, that love that only God can give. We don't want to stay in the outer court. We want to be in the presence of God.
Jesus is the way to get there. His truth guides us. His life sustains us.
