We have been discussing supernatural help in our relationships throughout this month. As we conclude, I want to emphasize that receiving instruction is actually the supernatural help itself. If you miss the instruction, there is no help. Tonight, I want to share some practical keys for how we can receive instruction from the Lord.
Supernaturally helping in relationships means seeking God's perfection, fulfillment of His purpose, and ensuring that we make heaven. The Lord wants to help us in every area—but we must first ask, pray, receive instruction, and then obey it.
A question came to us from someone seeking grace to forgive and let go when wronged, so they can walk in love, peace, and freedom. This is an important area where supernatural help is needed.
I refer you to Matthew 18:21-35, the parable of the unmerciful servant. In this parable, a master forgave a servant a debt of 10,000 talents—an astronomical sum that would take 160,000 years to repay. Yet that same servant refused to forgive a fellow servant who owed him merely 100 denarii, which could be repaid in 100 days.
The magnitude is staggering. God forgives us of debts we can never repay. When we refuse to forgive others of their smaller debts, God becomes angry with us. Jesus Himself said in the Lord's Prayer: "Forgive us our sins as we forgive those that sin against us."
The consequence of unforgiveness is dire. One of the repercussions of not being able to forgive is that we cannot receive forgiveness from God. This is a direct link to hell. You cannot go with the rapture if you are holding unforgiveness in your heart, and you do not know when you will die.
God taught me that when I forgive someone, they become like a white cloth—completely clean. He then instructed me to go and tell that person, "I have forgiven you," even if they had not asked for forgiveness. This is how God deals with us.
Take a step today. Even if the person has not come to you, go to them. Forgive them. Send them a text. Make the call. Tell somebody you forgive them.
For those struggling with forgiveness: forgive people in advance. Yes, you know they may do ten things—forgive them in advance anyway. Say, "I know you will do these things. I forgive you." This is the grace that God is releasing upon you right now. The grace is attending to you in this very moment.
We have been discussing how God wants to help us in our relationships. We've talked about seeking help in our relationship with God and with our spouses. Tonight, let me touch briefly on singles and those expecting marriage.
Be honest, be real, be authentic, and be genuine. Look into your life during this month of supernatural help. God wants to help you. He says, "I am the Lord thy God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear."
There is a declaration over you: Your case is less stress. Your case is less stress.
Your marriage shall be released. Remember the encounter of the servant of Abraham in Genesis 24:12-15. He prayed, "Lord, God of my master Abraham, make me successful today. Show me kindness." Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out. That shall be your encounter.
Some of you lack basic skills and virtues for marriage. Be real with God. Some of you cannot stand people—how do you expect to get married? Some are going through emotional torture or are involved in fornication. Some lack direction entirely and do not know God's plan for your life. Some face constant pressure from family asking when you will bring a spouse.
Take all of this to God. This is a month of supernatural help in relationships. The Lord will help you in Jesus' name. Your case is less stress.
A destiny helper is a person divinely and strategically placed in your life to help you fulfill God's purpose. You may be waiting for:
God is saying: This month I will help you. I will send you that helper.
A destiny helper can be someone close to you (like Esther and Mordecai), someone junior to you (like the slave girl and Naaman), or a friend God has planted in your life. Some years ago, I asked God for breakthrough. He said, "I have heard you, but the way I will help you is by connecting you to a destiny helper. Wait upon me for seven days." On the seventh day, while I was still fasting, God connected me to that destiny helper.
All you need to do is pray: "Lord, in this month of supernatural help in relationships, help me. Help me to identify my destiny helper. Help me not to neglect them. Help me not to do anything that will anger my destiny helper."
We must also be aware of unfriendly friends—people who appear supportive but are secretly harmful. These are:
Pray: "Lord, in this month of supernatural help in my relationships, help me identify every unfriendly friend in my life, in my family, in the lives of my children."
Warning number three for this year states: "Beware of enemies that will present themselves to you as friends. Beware of Amnon that will come to Tamar and love her to the point of feeling sick."
Warning number six states: "At crossroads, mind whom you consult for advice. An individual lost a great opportunity due to wrong counsel."
God wants to eradicate every unfriendly friend from your life in this year and in this month.
Receiving instruction is actually the supernatural help. Imagine if the instruction in John 2 had not come—it would be like 50% of the supernatural help was missing. The instruction was: "Go and fill the jars with water. Take it to the master of the ceremony."
Instruction is like 50% of supernatural help. Obedience is the other 50%.
Supernaturally help that we are talking about is not a gift—it is a reward system of God for your obedience. It requires your engagement. You must:
Joseph, husband of Mary, received divine instruction three times at critical crossroads in his life:
At every point, he received divine instruction and obeyed. This gave him supernatural help.
David inquired of the Lord in 1 Samuel 30:8: "Shall I pursue this raid? Will you raise their party? Will I overtake them?" God said, "Pursue them. You will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue."
After David was anointed king, in 2 Samuel 2:1-2, he asked the Lord: "Shall I go up to one of the towns of Judah?" The Lord said, "Yes, go up. To Hebron." Specific instruction. Specific word. At every point in time.
Everyone who succeeded in Scripture received instruction. This gave them supernatural help.
There are three fundamental facts about hearing from God:
Fact One: God speaks so clearly to us at every point. There is a word for that situation. There is a word for that relationship. There is a word God is telling you right now. Yes, there may be war at home, but God is telling you something. If only we could hear.
Fact Two: Your relationship with God is unique. Just as every child is unique to a parent, every one of us is unique in our relationship with God. The way you relate with one child differs from how you relate with another. And that is how we are to God. You need to identify your own uniqueness with God, because God wants to relate with you in your unique way.
Many of us get it wrong by trying to copy other people's experiences with God. But God wants to speak to you in the way He knows will reach you.
Fact Three: Three voices speak when you seek direction.
Consider Joseph. When he discovered Mary was pregnant, his voice was very loud: "This is fornication! This is adultery! She must be stoned!" But God spoke to him in a dream and said, "Do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife."
When Jesus was in the garden, He prayed: "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me" (Matthew 26:39). That was His humanity speaking—His feelings, what He could see. But He submitted to God's voice.
The devil also speaks. When tempting Jesus, he said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." He even added Scripture: "The Scripture says He will give His angels charge over you to keep you, so that you will not dash your feet against a stone." But Jesus discerned the devil's voice and rejected it.
You must learn to distinguish the three voices. Ask yourself: Am I talking? Is this flesh speaking? Am I listening to what I can see and feel and smell? Or is God speaking? Or is the devil speaking?
God communicates directly with us. Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me" (John 10:27).
This is one of the most important truths. A shepherd and his sheep have a relationship where the sheep know their shepherd's voice. I saw a documentary from a Welsh farm where a shepherd called his sheep in a particular way. Someone tried to mimic the shepherd's call, but the sheep did not move. But when they heard their master's voice, they all responded immediately.
Are you a sheep? How present is Jesus in your life and in your home? Don't wait until you reach a crossroads to develop your ability to hear from Him, because it may be too late. Many voices and pressures may not allow you to hear Him clearly.
Through His Word: As you read Scripture, God can drop a word in your heart. The Psalmist says, "The entrance of Your words gives light; it gives understanding" (Psalm 119:130). Daniel understood from the Scriptures that the captivity would last 70 years. God might want to speak to you through His Word right now. But if your Bible is gathering dust, if you have to go to social media and lose three hours, how will God speak to you?
Through Revelation and Dreams: God can speak through revelation dreams and night visions. There are visions where you close your eyes and see invisible things. There are trans where you see a moving picture unfold.
Through Unusual Knowing: There is a knowing you cannot describe with words. Your spirit bears witness with the Holy Spirit. Last year, we were planning a service and were supposed to invite someone to speak about child abuse. But I was just uncomfortable—I could not explain why. That person cancelled, and we had a great encounter with the Lord instead. That was unusual knowing.
Through Peace or Absence of Peace: You can have total peace about a decision, or you can have an absence of peace that tells you something is wrong.
Through Vision of God: There is the level of seeing the form of God directly, as Ezekiel experienced when he saw the wheel within a wheel, full of eyes, and the cherubim, seraphim, thrones, and dominions. This is the highest level.
Through Your Spouse: Do not neglect what your spouse says. In Matthew 27:19, Pilate's wife came to him and said, "Don't have anything to do with this innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him." She had received a warning in a dream.
Through Your Children: Sometimes your children may bring a word for the family. Do not neglect it. The Lord spoke to Samuel when he was young. Your child's word might contain the key to your career or your family's future.
Through Your Pastor and Ministers: God can speak through sermons, through the bulletin, through teachings. Some people have never read the church bulletin, yet there is always a word there.
Through Godly Friends and Colleagues: God speaks through good counsel from people with good motives—people who will speak life into you. Often these words come as a confirmation of what God has already been telling you.
Through Circumstances and Situations: In 1 Kings 19, the prophet Elijah was waiting to encounter God. A great wind came, then an earthquake, then a fire. But God was not in the wind, earthquake, or fire. Then came "a still small voice" (1 Kings 19:12). Yet God could also be in the fire or earthquake—He was in the fire at Mount Sinai. God speaks through circumstances.
Through Non-Living Things: In Exodus 14:25, as the Egyptians pursued the Israelites, God jammed the wheels of their chariots. God can jam your car's wheels to prevent an accident. God can cause you to lose your car keys to keep you from harm. In Numbers 22, God even spoke through Balaam's donkey.
Think of three major decisions in your life and how you arrived at them. Most likely, peace attended to you. Most likely, God released a word to you, or He confirmed what He had already been telling you. Fan that up. Build on those experiences.
When you receive a revelation, write it down immediately. If you forget your dreams, pray. Dream is one of the easiest windows into the spiritual realm.
Be bold to declare what you hear. You may get it wrong once or twice, but be bold. Be sensitive to God. There is no point in wanting to hear from God if you are not sensitive to His voice.
Build a life of fellowship with God. In Mark 1:35, it says Jesus woke up early and went to a mountaintop to pray. Before making major decisions, Jesus would pray all night.
Fellowship with God means:
When you are waiting upon the Lord, keep praying. Keep studying His Word. God will speak to you.
Do not become dependent on others who hear from God for you. Many people depend so much on prophets and others that they never develop their own relationship with God. And you must be careful: some people will give a false prophecy and then work to bring it to pass, just so you keep coming back to them. But God has given you a better relationship with Him than you have with any person. Ask God directly. Test what people tell you.
Live a life of obedience. God spoke to Joseph three times. If he had not obeyed the first instruction, God would not have given him the second or third. Some of you have not heard from God because you have not obeyed the instructions He already gave you. You want Him to tell you something new, but you are still disobeying the old word.
Think about that situation in your life that is about to bring embarrassment—whether in your family, between you and your siblings, between you and your children, between you and your parents, or between you and your destiny helper.
There is a word God wants to give you. Pray and say: "Lord, I receive instruction. Lord, open my eyes to see what to do. Lord, open my ears to hear. Give me grace to obey. Lord, even if it seems foolish, I will obey. If You say go and fetch water and give it to the master of the ceremony, I will do it. For there lies my supernatural help."
Some of you are struggling because you know what God is saying, but you do not have grace to obey. You can ask God tonight: "Lord, give me grace to obey. Lord, I will not be disobedient."
No matter how foolish the instruction seems, obey it. There lies your supernatural help.
