All of us face some type of mountain in our lives. Yours could be anger, pride, poverty, lack of progress, or stagnation. Our church as a whole knows our mountain—our building that is stuck. We are praying that God will touch the heart of the council so that we can begin again. That's a mountain, and by the grace of God, we are moving that mountain in Jesus' name.
Zechariah 4:7 says something very important: "What are you, O great mountain before Zerubbabel? You will become a plain. Then he will bring forth the capstone accompanied by shouts of 'Grace, grace to it.'"
Zerubbabel was a governor tasked with rebuilding the temple. The great mountain represents the daunting task of reconstruction. It was going to be very tough and serious. When we face our own mountains—whether personal or corporate—we sometimes don't know where to begin. The complexity feels overwhelming.
But the word of God came to Zerubbabel: don't worry, that mountain will be made plain. I'm decreeing to somebody today that will be your portion in Jesus' name. Whatever mountain you are thinking about right now, though it looks big, God will make it plain in Jesus' name.
The great mountain represents the daunting task. The plain means removal of that obstacle, and that can only happen through divine intervention. May the Lord intervene in your situation in Jesus' name. But it's not only about removing the mountain—the capstone symbolizes completion. You will not just remove the mountain, but whatever you lay your hands upon, you will complete it in Jesus' name.
Our general overseer has told us that all of us must be mountain movers. So I want to give you ten spiritual keys to move your own mountain. Personalize this to your life. Don't think about your pastor or your spouse—think about yourself. What do you need to move your own mountain?
Don't underrate the power in the word of God. Everything we see exists by the spoken word of God. From the beginning, the Bible tells us how God formed everything through spoken words. The word of God is still very powerful today.
When you are talking about your mountain, the word of God will help you move it. Look at the scripture that addresses your mountain and speak the word. Job 22:28 says, "You shall decree a thing and it shall be established." That's the power we have through the word of God. When you decree things through God's word, things will begin to happen for you.
John 14:14 says, "If you ask anything in my name, I will do it." Jesus Christ teaches us to pray in His name because that name is so powerful—nothing can resist it. The word of God is active, sharper than any two-edged sword. When you apply God's word correctly, it works and it moves mountains.
Jesus Christ did not say you need mountain-sized faith to move a mountain. He said faith like a mustard seed. There's a saying: "Small faith in a massive God gives massive results."
Matthew 17:20 says, "If you have faith as a grain of a mustard seed, you shall say unto the mountain, 'Remove,' and it shall remove." Our God is massive and all-powerful. You just need that small faith that God is able to do it. Then He's going to give you a massive result.
You just need to believe that the mountain can be moved through divine intervention, because God is in you. The Bible says he that is in us is greater than he that is in the world. We carry the power of God inside of us, and He's able to help us move mountains.
People who successfully move their mountains are fearless. Satan uses fear to get people. That's why the Bible teaches us that God has not given us the spirit of fear.
Mountains look large to intimidate us. Sometimes we don't even know where to start. Satan will amplify the problem, making it look so big that we don't know where to begin. But if you are fearless and remember that God is with you, you can go up against that mountain.
Look at young David facing Goliath in 1 Samuel 17. Goliath was a mountain of a man. His description alone was enough to intimidate anyone. But David was not intimidated. Why? Because David knew God was with him. David had small faith in a massive God, and he received a massive result. All the warriors were scared, but this small boy, carrying God's presence, faced Goliath and won.
Goliath was a mountain, but David was fearless. Fear paralyzes, but boldness will paralyze the enemy.
If we know God very well, we won't fear. The problem is we don't really know the God we serve. The Bible is clear: those who know their God will be strong.
We call ourselves Christians, followers of Christ, children of God. But do we actually understand how big this God is? Just read how He created the world and the universe. You will know how big our God is. If you have intimate knowledge of God, you will not fear anything. You cannot lean on a God you do not know.
Daniel 11:32 says, "The people that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits." The Apostle Paul realized this when he said, "May I know him and the power of his resurrection." That power raised Jesus—it must be very strong. If we know that power, we'll be able to face our mountains.
What we need to do is deepen our relationship with God so that our mountains will become small, and we will overcome.
You need to have prompt obedience. Sometimes the miracle requires action. God will not do it alone—He will partner with us.
Remember the Red Sea. It didn't just part. God was about to perform this miracle, but He had to partner with the children of Israel. The leader had to obey promptly. If Moses had not obeyed, Pharaoh's army would have caught them and destroyed them.
God told Moses to lift up his rod and stretch it out over the sea. Sometimes the problem is that some things are too simple for us to obey. We start thinking in our own minds, "How can that work?" Mary asked the same question: "How can I have a child when I'm a virgin?" That's natural to ask, but when God gives a directive, obey it immediately.
Don't dismiss it as nonsense. Don't listen to what people say on social media or Instagram. If God has said it, that's what we're going to do. God has His own way of working. If you really want your mountain to be moved, pay attention to God's word and obey.
The children of Israel wanted to cross into the land of Canaan, but they were scared. The leader sent 12 spies to scout the land. Ten brought back a negative report; only two brought a positive report.
Usually in life, when you put something out, negative views are more common than positive ones. If you declare something good, maybe 90% will say it's not possible. Only a few will say, "We serve a God who is able to do it." That's why you need to know the God you serve.
Look at Numbers 13:33. The spies reported: "We felt like grasshoppers, and that's what we thought others saw too." Not only did they see themselves as grasshoppers, but they thought others saw them that way. Don't let yourself have that mentality. It doesn't matter how big the mountain is—believe that God is able to give you the land.
Caleb and Joshua were the two spies not affected by this mentality. They were the ones saying, "No, no, no. We are able to go and get the land." Don't have the grasshopper mentality.
We know this very well. Jesus said in John 14:14, "If you shall ask anything in my name, I will do it." That's why when we pray, we always say "in the name of Jesus." Because that's what Jesus Christ instructed, and our Lord does not lie.
When you are praying about your mountain, ask that it be moved in the name of Jesus. The mountain cannot stand against that name. As Jesus Christ has promised, when you address your mountain in His name and ask, the mountain is going to move.
Prayer is very, very important. We have been praying every midnight for our building, and the attendance has been encouraging. I want to thank you and encourage you to keep it up.
Some people wonder why we have to pray about the same thing all the time. Jesus Christ Himself gave us the parable of the persistent widow. She kept going to the judge, asking for the same thing, until he had no choice but to answer. Jesus said, "How much more will your Father in heaven?"
Do not think it's too much or that God doesn't hear. Don't give up. Even Elijah had to pray seven times before anything changed. He would bury his head and continue praying. Finally, the servant came and said, "I see something gathering like a little cloud," and the rain began.
Don't give up if your mountain hasn't moved yet. Satan wants you to give up, but don't give up. Whatever you are praying about, be persistent. God is going to move it eventually in Jesus' name.
When you are praying, you need to add fasting to it. There has been a lot of attack on the internet against us in the Redeemed Christian Church of God when our General Overseer asks us to fast for 100 days. But we are being obedient, and we are seeing results.
Some people say, "What's the point? God is not deaf." But mountains are deeply rooted and stubborn. When the disciples failed to cast out a stubborn demon, Jesus told them, "There are some that will not go out except by fasting and prayer."
If fasting is not important, why would Jesus Christ fast for 40 days? He is God coming down in human flesh, and He fasted for 40 days. That shows us the importance of fasting.
Even medically, fasting is good for us. It gives our organs rest so they can be repaired. Spiritually, fasting is essential for moving mountains. When you pray and fast, mountains are moved.
There is a difference between obedience and doing things in details. Sometimes we obey partially. We do part of what we're asked but not all. But full obedience requires doing it in details.
When you check the scriptures, you see that people who obeyed in details are the ones whose mountains were actually moved. Sometimes if you don't obey in details, the mountain might still remain. Maybe that's what some of us need to check in our lives: Is our obedience complete?
The walls of Jericho did not fall because of military weapons or because the children of Israel were very powerful. The walls fell because they obeyed what God asked them to do. God told them to march around the wall once a day for six days. On the seventh day, they were to do something specific. They did exactly that, and on the seventh day, when the trumpet was blown, the walls fell flat.
Think of Gideon. He originally had 32,000 men to fight. But God told him to reduce them to 300. How do you explain that? With 32,000, he wasn't even sure about the battle. God was saying, "Reduce it to 300." If he had not carried out that instruction in details, he would have lost the battle.
It doesn't matter how ridiculous the instructions sound. Joe told us there was a time he was praying for someone, and God asked him to do something that looked ridiculous. But he knew he had to obey. That's just like when David was dancing—it might look strange, but obedience is what matters.
Think of Naaman. He was a commander of a huge army, told to go dip himself in a dirty pool. He complained. But if he had not obeyed, he would have remained a leper.
Think of the widow of Zarephath. There was a severe drought in the land. She didn't have enough for herself and her son. But the prophet came and said, "Use what you have to prepare a meal for me first." In this present world, people would say that's fake. But the woman obeyed, and she got her miracle.
Remember the widow whose husband had left debt and creditors were coming to take her only son. That was a huge mountain to move. But God gave her an instruction: go and borrow empty jars. It sounded ridiculous. But she obeyed, and her mountain was moved.
I want you to identify your own mountain. Persistent prayer—that's what we've been doing since Monday. Raise your voice unto God and talk to Him about that mountain.
Go ahead and begin to pray: "Father, in the name of Jesus, here is my mountain. Help me. Let this mountain be moved in the name of Jesus."
Stand upon the word of God and command every mountain in your life to move. Is it lack? Stagnation? A problem at work? A career problem? Remember, we define mountain as anything that will stop you from making progress, anything that will prevent you from moving forward.
Begin to pray that in the name of Jesus. The Lord will move it. The power that the Lord has deposited in you will move it in the name of Jesus. Command the mountain facing you to move.
Barrenness is a mountain because God wants us to be fruitful. Begin to pray that the Lord will move that mountain. Say to yourself, "Who are you, O great mountain? The word of God says you shall be made plain. Today you are removed. You are destroyed. You become plain in the name of Jesus."
Are you facing pride? Pray that it will be moved. Pride can stop you from making progress and prevent people from helping you.
Are you facing a problem with your career or a visa problem? Go ahead and begin to pray in the name of Jesus. The mountains will move.
