When you marry, the person you choose will determine the direction of your destiny. I discovered my wife's true nature—she appeared flamboyant on the surface, but beneath that exterior was a deeply spiritual woman. I wasn't looking for someone eloquent or impressive by worldly standards. Life is tough, and you need a partner whose foundation is spiritual, not superficial.
When you consistently study the Word of God, you are meditating on truth. Learning to rightly divide the word of truth is essential. How will you know the truth? You must get into the Bible and study it thoroughly.
Many of you have children and busy schedules. Here's what I encourage: after your children sleep, plan your study time. When you wake up refreshed, open the Bible. Go to Ephesians, Genesis, or any part of Scripture. Start studying, and you will realize that something is speaking to you. You won't even understand it at first, but through studying God's Word, you have a communication happening. Someone is talking to you through Scripture.
Hallelujah. Constantly study and meditate on the word of God.
First Timothy chapter 4, verse 1 tells us clearly: in the last times, some will turn away from faith and follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons. How can you escape that danger? By knowing the truth.
"You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free." (John 8:32)
You know the truth when you begin to recognize what does not align with God's Word. I once told a friend of seventeen years: "Brother, I'm uncomfortable." He asked what I meant. I said, "You should know me by now. I'm uncomfortable. Can we meet?" He said we'd have to wait until November. I told him, "Can I speak to your wife before you die? Because you are heading toward destruction—fast destruction."
When you know the truth, you can identify what is wrong in your life. Anything happening around you that you cannot explain through the Bible is spiritual deception—what some call witchcraft.
Imagine you're suddenly angry with your wife for no reason. Something irritates you unnecessarily. You recognize: there's something wrong here. You go back to the Word. You pray, "Holy Spirit, please help me. What's happening?" This is what I call a spiritual checkup. You check yourself, and as you do, the Holy Spirit begins to speak to you and minister to you. He gives you a Bible reference—perhaps you don't know where it is immediately, so you Google it—and understanding comes.
Please study the word of God and meditate.
What does it mean to meditate? You meditate until the thing becomes part of you. This morning I was meditating on Judges chapter 10, reading the story of Gideon. As I meditated on that word, God spoke to me: "Son, that is it." When you study God's Word to a certain level, the Spirit of God jumps into your heart and begins to teach you where to go.
The dispensation we are living in now is the dispensation of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit always confirms the word of God and His power. Don't let anybody deceive you.
I see so much false teaching happening on the internet. People gather around false prophets instead of going where they will hear sound doctrine—where they learn to love their wife, love their neighbor, give, and be faithful. Instead, they go where someone says, "Close your eyes, ladies line up—who wants to get married this week? Men, stand up!" I ask myself, is this actually true, or are people joking and faking?
I saw all the ladies being told, "You want to get married this year?" Then the men come: "I want to marry this lady." God is merciful, or He would rain down fire. People are ruining people's destinies. There's a saying in my language: if you don't want to serve God, you will serve someone lesser. That is the truth.
I am glad you are hearing the word of truth this morning. If you can apply it—study the word, be a doer, constantly meditate on God's Word, and practice what it says—you become a living testimony.
Anything any pastor says, anything anybody says—I am not saying it on my own. I am saying what Scripture says.
"The Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance." (John 14:26)
Brother and sister, can you check the source of every spirit? But you will not be able to distinguish between different spirits if you are not truly a believer who studies God's Word seriously. You simply won't be able to tell.
Before I pray for those who want to rededicate their lives, I want to tell you three things about God's Word. First and most important: you must obey the word of God.
Do you remember Gehazi? There was a general who had leprosy. A man of God told him, "Go and wash three times in the River Jordan." Gehazi thought, "I expected him to come out and lay his hands on me and cast out the leprosy with great spiritual power." Instead, the man simply gave him instructions. But Gehazi went out in rage. How many believers go out in rage because they don't want to listen to God's instruction and obey the word?
When they finally got to the river, they said, "Hey—" and some couldn't even return. The Bible says that if a believer turns back from faith, it is very difficult to restore them. God forbid.
I was telling someone, "It's better God call me home than for me to see what I'm seeing." I knew a brother who lost faith. He had an affair with another woman, left his wife, was pushed out of three churches, and now is in yet another church, still not satisfied with his wife. And he's a minister! There is no fear in the church anymore because we don't see the real fire—like what happened to Ananias and Sapphira.
When you are spiritually dull, when you are spiritually dead, it's better to physically die. When someone is truly dead, he doesn't even know the difference anymore. The devil will come to him and say, "I have an anointing. I'm a pastor of this church, an evangelist." And that person will wear jeans and go to the pub. I would rather die and go to be with the Lord than live in such abomination.
Look at God's Word: He has no respect of persons. Whether you're a pastor, a bishop, or someone who gave their life to Jesus yesterday—there is no favoritism based on your background or position.
Gehazi could have died as a leper. The man of God was not soft about this. Elijah said, "Go and wash three times in the Jordan." Gehazi thought he would come out and pray dramatically, but that's not what happened. How many of us come to prayer, Friday prayer meetings, Bible study, house fellowship—and then say, "My problem is too much. Let me go somewhere where life will be easy."
The best deliverance any believer can receive is the deliverance of obedience. You must obey God's Word.
Remember the man God instructed: "Go to this place and don't stop." God's instruction is simple; it's not grievous. It's for our benefit. That man confirmed, "God told me I must not eat, and I'm not going to eat." But an old prophet sent his son to him, saying, "God told me last night that you should come and eat with me."
You see the problem of disobedience? God had told the old prophet something the night before, but the old prophet used his own mouth to say something different. The man believed the old prophet instead of keeping God's original instruction, and destruction followed. He was killed.
If I'm telling you anything from this pulpit, I say it openly by the Spirit of God. Everything I tell you from this pulpit—if you cannot confirm it from Scripture, don't obey it. Don't listen to it.
I want to pray for those who are struggling. Have you grown spiritually dull? This is a grace era, a Holy Spirit era, and I want to pray for you.
If you are in that category—if you have been fattened in the spirit, if you champion Bible study and reading but something went wrong—please stand. Life is a personal race. If you want to rededicate your life, if you want your prayer life and study life to be revived, please rise on your feet.
Some of you go home to study, and something comes over you. Your husband or wife interrupts, or you feel a heaviness. That's a spirit. If you want the Spirit of Jesus to come upon you afresh, please stand. If you want to rededicate your spiritual life and bring your study life back to life, I want to pray for you.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I pray for your daughter by your Spirit. Because she is willing, and You said, "Whosoever is willing and obedient shall eat the good of the land." I pray for this sister this afternoon. Her heart cries, "Oh God, I'm ready. I'm rededicating my life to You. I want to know Scripture." Give her grace to study. Give her understanding. Give her the anointing to study. Give her grace to understand more. Receive it now in the name of Jesus Christ.
My wife will see you next week Sunday. There is something we have put in place specifically for you. And believe me, this is the decision you have to make right now. If you are married, your husband will see you. When your husband sees what a giant spiritual woman you have become, there will be a process. My wife will see you next week Sunday personally, by the grace of God. Please come early.
You have heard the Word for almost forty-five minutes. The Bible says that the Word profited some, but it did not profit others because they did not mix faith with what they heard. I want you to lift up your hands and cry to your Maker this morning and say:
"Father, I've heard Your word. Please help me to obey. Please anoint me with ability and grace to study Your word. Make me a living testimony."
Speak to Him. Say, "Father, make me a living testimony. Let me become a living testimony of Your word. The power of Your words—the power that is in Your word—let it begin to work in my favor right now. In Jesus' mighty name we are praying. Amen."
